Colour Witch's Coven - The Threshold

Public·76 Coverners

The Colour Witch Event Compass

I have this up on the wall beside my PC in my office as a reminder of what I should be giving my valuable energy to, and what I should just bin off.

And thought I’d share it, because a lot of events are feeling a little bit icky at the moment. Not that I don't want to organise them or attend. They're just much harder work than they really should be.

So instead of saying yes to everything like I used to, I try this.

When an opportunity presents itself, I use my Colour Witch Event Compass I ask myself:

South - Belonging Am I actually going to feel comfortable there?

Or am I already getting that feeling I’ll be drained, overlooked, or not really valued?

East - Purpose Is this going anywhere for me? Not just financially. Does it connect me to the right people or move things forward on my path? (I know this sounds a bit selfish - but we all need to practice self-worth)

West - Feeling Do I even want to be there? If I picture it and it makes me sigh rather than getting butterflies… I pay attention to that.

It might start out as just a little niggle, but it will end up being a massive pain in the arse, and I won't want to be involved at all.

North - Clarity

Is this really (I mean, really) for me?

Or am I trying to make myself fit something that doesn’t, just because I don't want to let people down?

Then it’s really simple.

4 yes - go for it

3 yes - maybe, depends on what I’m getting back from it - does it feel like a fair exchange?

2 or less - it’s an absolute no!

I think a lot of us say yes out of habit, or even just a fear of missing out (we all experience FOMO).

Or is it because something looks good on paper? But doing things because we feel we should or because we have been invited can cause resentment. And that can fester into all kinds of negativity, from anger, frustration, to complete indifference.

People often forget that because we do creative shizz, that it must be fun and we don't deserve to get paid for it (hey, we don't always want to be paid, but the energy exchange must feel aligned)

So if you’ve been looking at doing events and feeling a bit unsure, try using this compass technique.

I reckon if it's not a 'Hell Yes!' then it's a no!
